Silver Lake Campground - June Lake Loop

Silver Lake Campground - June Lake Loop - is at the north end of Silver Lake in the Eastern Sierra. The campground is among the most popular in the June Lake Loop due to its proximity to great fishing and the magnificent views surrounding mountains and waterfalls.

Around the June Lake Loop

Four main lakes make up the June Lake Loop - June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake, and Grant Lake. (see June Lake Loop map below) Fishing is rewarding in all of the lakes. Marinas, launch ranps, and boat rentals are available at all of the lakes. June Lake's and Gull Lakes's marinas are the the largest. At June Lake is a popular beach inside the Oh! Ridge Campground.

Shoreside activities are plentiful around the lakes. Hiking trails circle the lakes or lead up to scenic alpine lakes. Road cycling and mountain biking attract many. Fall colors are magnificent, drawing photographers and artists. June Mountain Ski Resort offers scenic summer chair lfit rides. Frontier Pack Train features trail rides, from one hour to all day.

Silver Lake Campground

Silver Lake Campground features 63 campsites spread out at beside Silver Lake. All campsites can accommodate RVs, trailers and tents. Some sites are along the creek and others lakeside. Most sites are fairly well spread apart with bushes offering privacy. Campsites have picnic tables, bear-proof storage lockers, and fire pits. Drinking water is available at spigots scattered around the campground. Restrooms are equipped with flush toilets, and showers are available. Within easy walking distance are a small store, a cafe, a pack station, and hiking trailheads. A dedicated fish cleaning station has been set up away from the campground.

Silver Lake campers are greated to views of 270-foot Horsetail Falls which cascades from a high Sierra lake and feeds into Silver Lake via Rush Creek. Fly fishing is good along the creek.

Key Silver Lake Campground Regulations

  1. Dogs must be on leash and attended at all times. No more than 2 pets are permitted per campsite at Gull Lake Campground.
  2. Fires are only allowed in fire rings.
  3. Quiet Hours are from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  4. To avoid problems with bears, keep food in bear-proof lockers.
