Rock Creek Lake Campground

Rock Creek Lake Campground sits on the east shore of Rock Creek Lake, 9 miles west of Tom's Place on Highway 395. The entire Rock Creek watershed is a paradise for campers, hikers, anglers, and backpackers.

Rock Creek Lake and Beyond

Rock Creek Lake attracts visitors to its shores as soon as the snow melts in the spring. Others wait for the brilliant fall colors. Many come for the beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains, setting up tripods for photography or painting. Still others arrive to fish for brook, brown, and rainbow trout, along with planted Alpers trout. Rock Creek Lakes Resort offers well-stocked general store, a grill serving breakfast and lunch, cabins, boat rentals, and shower facilities.

Hikers set off upstream into Little Lakes Valley along a fairly gentle trail. All the way up the canyon are lakes and streams, beckoning anglers to test the waters and offering scenic meadows to spread out a picnic and admire the jagged high Sierra peaks. Other trails in the Rock Creek Lake area lead to even more lakes. The Rock Creek Pack Station offers day rides along with overnight adventures into the wilderness.

Rock Creek Lake Campground

Rock Creek Lake Campground features 26 campsites. Six tents-only sites are spread along a low ridge between the parking area and the lake, offering nice views of the lake and moderate privacy. Five other designated walk-to campsites also, for the most part, have good privacy. Two sites are specified for RVs only, while the remaining 13 campsites can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. Those multi-use sites are closer together and don't have as much privacy as the tent-only sites. The maximum length of stay at Rock Creek Lake Campground is 7 days.

Each campsite has a picnic table, firepit with grill, and bear-proof food storage lockers. The campground has spigots with drinking water and restrooms with flush toilets.

Those camping at Rock Creek Lake are rewarded with beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding Sierra peaks. A day-use area at the southeastern end of the lake makes a great place for shore fishing and swimming. Boats are limited to 5 MPH.
