Sheep Creek Campground

Sheep Creek Campground is located at Cedar Grove near Road's End in Kings Canyon National Park. The campsites are along the South Fork of the Kings River in an open conifer forest. Visitors who make the 30-mile drive from Grant Grove down to Cedar Grove are rewarded with a beautiful valley surrounded by towering peaks. Hiking trails lead up the canyon to Mist Falls and points with views of the Sphinx (shown above). Sheep Creek, Moraine, and Sentinel campgrounds are side by side and nearly identical.

The roads and driveways throughout Sheep Creek Campground are paved, making it easier for both RVs and smaller cars to access the campground. The 5 comfort stations throughout the campground all have flush toilets, a large sink for dish-washing, and drinking water. Every campsite has a 10x8-foot tent pad.. A number of sites will accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet. Extra bear boxes are provided near the campground entrance if the one at your site is not adequate. A bike path connects Sheep Creek Campground with Sentinel Campground and other locations in Cedar Grove.

Reservations: Reservations are required for all campsites. Reservations can be made up to one month in advance of your stay. Reservations open for the season on April 24, 2023, one month in advance of the campground opening date of May 24, 2023.
Camping Limit: 14 nights from June 14 to September 14 with 30 days total per year
Maximum RV/Trailer Length: 20-30 feet (larger sites may be available on Recreation.gov - Sentinel Campground Reservations)

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Visitors Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks have many wonderful places to explore. Campers at Sheep Creek Campground in Cedar Grove are near great hiking trails, crashing waterfalls, and rewarding fishing.

  • Load up your day-pack and hit the trail for nearby Cedar Grove destinations such as Knapps's Cabin, Canyon View Lookout, and Roaring River Falls.
  • Participate in Ranger-led Programs at Grant Grove, Cedar Grove, Wuksachi Lodge, and John Muir Lodge.
  • Head out fishing along the Kings River in Cedar Grove or hike to Mist Falls.
  • Take advantage of a free shuttle to key sites in Sequoia's Lodgepole and Giant Forest area.
  • In Sequoia, tour Crystal Cave, climb the trail up Moro Rock, stand before the towering Sherman Tree, and visit the Giant Forest Museum.
  • Take a scenic driving tour of some of the spectacular vistas in the parks.
  • Drive up to Hume Lake for fishing and swimming.
  • Children can participate in the Junior Ranger Program.

Key Sheep Creek Campground Regulations

  1. Dogs must always be attended and kept on leash. Except for service dogs, dogs are not permitted on any park trails or on the summer shuttle.
  2. Avoid problems with bears , by following park rules about storing food and scented items in bear-proof lockers, not in vehicles.
  3. Generators may only be operated from 9 AM to 9 PM.
