Hume Lake Campground

Hume Lake Campground is within easy walking distance of Hume Lake and all the recreational opportunities the area affords, including fishing, non-motorized boating, hiking, and swimming. A lakeside day use area is a short walk from the campground. Hume Lake's central location makes it convenient to drive to all the major attractions in Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks. Vehicles over 22-feet long should enter the parks via Highway 180.

RV Camping and Tent Camping at Hume Lake Campground

Most of the 54 campsites at Hume Lake Campground are available for RV camping and tent camping. Two dozen sites dispersed throughout the campground are designated tent-only. Three sites are double campsites. Some campsites have views of the lake. Trails from the campground lead down to the lake.

Key Hume Lake Campground Regulations

  1. Due to the spread of invasive insects, firewood from outside the area is not permitted.
  2. Avoid problems with bears by storing food and similar items in bear-proof lockers, not in vehicles. Use of the lockers is required.
  3. Generators may only be operated from 9 AM to 9 PM. In Lodgepole and Dorst campgrounds, only operate generators from 8 AM to 11 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM.
  4. Dogs (except service dogs) are not permitted on any park trails or on the summer shuttle.

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.

Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks are filled with scenic wonders and great places to explore. Campers at Hume Lake Campground are next to a beautiful mountain lake.

  • Walk down to the lake for swimming, kayaking, and fishing.
  • Join in Ranger-led Programs at Grant Grove, Cedar Grove, Wuksachi Lodge, and John Muir Lodge.
  • Try your luck fishing along the Kings River in Cedar Grove or hike to Mist Falls.
  • Take advantage of a free shuttle to key sites in Sequoia's Lodgepole and Giant Forest area.
  • In Sequoia, visit Crystal Cave, climb the trail up Moro Rock, stand before the towering Sherman Tree, and visit the Giant Forest Museum.
  • Take a scenic driving tour of some of the spectacular vistas in the parks.
  • Children can participate in the Junior Ranger Program.
