Princess Campground

Princess Campground is located along Highway 180 in Indian Basin Grove, 3 miles northwest of Hume Lake and 6 miles from Kings Canyon's Grant Grove. The campground is among old Sequoia stumps, many second-growth Sequoias, and a mixture of other conifers. Nearby are Indian Basin Meadow and Creek. Some campsites have distant views of Hume Lake. Princess Campground has docent guided hikes and campfire talks during the summer. Vehicles over 22-feet long should enter the parks via Highway 180.

RV Camping and Tent Camping at Princess Campground

Princess Campground has 90 campsites for RV camping and/or tent camping. Driveway surfaces are gravel. Campsites are arranged in three loops: Shining Cloud, Yellow Moon, and Morning Star. Double sites and tent-only sites are available. The tent-only sites are dispersed around the loops.

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Attractions and Activities

Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks are filled with scenic wonders and great places to explore. Campers at Princess Campground are located not far from Grant Grove, Hume Lake, and Cedar Grove.

  • Drive over to Hume Lake for swimming, kayaking, and fishing.
  • Join in Ranger-led Programs at Grant Grove, Cedar Grove, Wuksachi Lodge, and John Muir Lodge.
  • Try your luck fishing along the Kings River in Cedar Grove or hike to Mist Falls.
  • Take advantage of a free shuttle to key sites in Sequoia's Lodgepole and Giant Forest area .
  • In Sequoia, visit Crystal Cave, climb the trail up Moro Rock, stand before the towering Sherman Tree, and visit the Giant Forest Museum.
  • Take a scenic driving tour of some of the spectacular vistas in the parks.
  • Children can participate in the Junior Ranger Program.

Key Princess Campground Regulations

  1. Generators may only be operated from 9 AM to 9 PM. In Lodgepole and Dorst campgrounds, only operate generators from 8 AM to 11 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM.
  2. To prevent the spread of invasive insects, firewood from outside the area is not permitted.
  3. Avoid problems with bears by keeping food and similar items in bear-proof lockers, not in vehicles. Use of the lockers is required.
  4. Dogs (except service dogs) are not permitted on any park trails or on the summer shuttle.
