Residence Campground and Red Mountain Campground are located in Foster Park, one of a number of recreation areas operated by Ventura County Parks. The Ventura River runs through the park, passing green fields and mature trees. The popular Ojai Valley Trail winds through the park, to the delight of hikers, horseback riders, and cyclists. The park includes a playground and horseshoe pits. Residence and Red Mountain campgrounds are only 6 miles from Casitas Lake Recreation Area.

Residence Campground has 16 campsites spread along a single road in the park. Campsites can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. Ten of the campsites have full hook-ups (20, 30, and 50 amp). Red Mountain Campground has 18 campsites. Road noise can be heard in the campgrounds. Casitas Vista Road passes close to some of the sites and the Ventura Freeway is nearby.

First-come, first-served sites may be available (Check the reservation website for availability of walkup sites.)

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Visitors to Ventura County coast find many excellent beaches, lakes and forests to explore Those camped at Residence Campground are only a short drive from Lake Casitas and Pacific Ocean beaches.

  • Enjoy the 9-mile Ojai Valley Trail. One side is paved for bicyclists, walkers, joggers, and people exercising their pets. A wooden fence separates the paved path from a dirt bridle path for horseback riders.
  • Fish for monster bass at Lake Casitas.
  • Enjoy swimming, surfing, and fishing at Emma Wood State Beach.
  • Surf the point at El Capitan Beach, Mondos, or Rincon Point
  • Visit the Flight 261 Memorial Sundial at Hueneme Beach.
  • Head out wildlife viewing along the Ventura River estuary.
  • Enjoy the calm waters of beautiful Cachuma Lake.

Key Residence Campground Regulations

  1. Dogs are permitted in the campground on leash, but they are not allowed in Foster Park (except for guide dogs). There is a limit of 2 dogs.
  2. Quiet Hours are from 9 PM to 7 AM. No generators may be operated during quiet hours.
