Kumeyaay Lake Campground

Kumeyaay Lake Campground is part of Mission Trails Regional Park, 12 miles northeast of San Diego. The campground, operated by the City of San Diego, is only available for camping on Friday and Saturday nights. Visitors to the 7,220-acre park enjoy boating and fishing at Lake Murray, hiking the miles of scenic trails, bicycling, and horseback riding. The Visitor and Interpretive Center is well worth a stop.

Kumeyaay Lake Campground has 46 campsites which may be reserved. Campers are limited to 2 tents per site. RVs, campervans, and trailers are only permitted at sites #20, 22, 24-45, and 47. Eighteen campsites are designated for tents only. The south side of the campground gets some traffic noise. Trees provide partial shade. Campsites may be reserved for a maximum of 2 days (3 days on select weekends).

Campers at Kumeyaay Lake Campground have all of Mission Trails Regional Park to explore as well as the surrounding area.


Key Kumeyaay Lake Campground Regulations

  1. Fires may only be lit in designated fire rings, using only charcoal, wood, or paper.
  2. To protect against invasive pests, only prepacked firewood obtained in San Diego County is permitted. Oak firewood is not permitted due to recent prest infestations. Gathering firewood or other plant material in the park is not permitted.
  3. Generators may be operated between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM only in sites #35 - 42 and #44 and only between September 16 and March 14. No generator use is allowed other times of the year.
  4. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM.
  5. Dogs and cats must be kept on leash and attended at all times or confined to a cage, crate, tent, or vehicle.
  6. Alcoholic Beverages and Glass Containers are not permitted in the campground or the park.
