Sims Flat Campground

Sims Flat Campground sits along the Sacramento River, 12 miles south of Dunsmuir and 17 miles north of the community of Lakeshore on the upper reaches of Shasta Lake. Many of the people who camp at Sims Flat are anglers. The Sacramento River in the area of Dunsmuir is well known for its superior fly fishing. Sims Flat was once a Civilian Conservation Corps camp. The Sims Bridge over the Sacramento River was erected by the CCC in 1933. Today it is a footbridge.

Sims Flat Campground contains 19 campsites for tents and mid-size RVs or trailers. Mature trees and an abundance of understory provide good shade and privacy for most of the sites. All of the campsites are first-come, first-served. Campers can hear the faint hum of passing cars on Interstate 5 and the closer sound of passing trains.
