Jackass Meadow Campground

Jackass Meadow Campground is along the upper San Joaquin River just below Florence Lake in the Sierra National Forest. The campground is about a 3-hour drive east of Fresno, including a narrow and winding section of road over Kaiser Pass. The area is not recommended for large RVs or trailers.

Campers at Jackass Meadow Campground enjoy access to great fishing in Florence Lake as well as a number of trails in the wilderness.

Jackass Meadow Campground has 40 campsites which can accommodate small RVs, tent trailers, and tents. The campground is shaded by aspen and lodgepole pine. Several double sites are available. A minimum 2-night stay is required on weekends and 3 nights on holiday weekends.

Attractions near Jackass Meadow Campground: Head out onto the handicapped accessible nature trail. Drive up to Florence Lake and launch your boat. Stop in the little Florence Lake Store. Take the water taxi across the lake. Enjoy the short drive to Lake Edison and to Mono Hot Springs. Follow trails into John Muir Wilderness, connecting to John Muir Trail. Visit the Muir Trail Ranch with lodging and hot springs.

High Sierra Lakes Attractions

Southern California Edison Company operates a series of lakes in the Sierra National Forest as part of their hydroelectric facilities. Five of the lakes - Lake Thomas A. Edison, Florence Lake, Huntington Lake, and Shaver Lake - are known for their wonderful camping and recreation. Visitors to Jackass Meadow Campground are close to stunning Florence Lake.


Key Jackass Meadow Campground Regulations

  1. Quiet time extends from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  2. Fires must be confined to the provided fire pits.
  3. Dogs must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  4. To avoid bringing in invasive pests, outside firewood is not permitted. Obtain firewood locally.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.
