Trumbull Lake Campground

Trumbull Lake Campground is 6 miles west of Highway 395 in the Virginia Lakes area, between Mono Lake and Bridgeport. Campsites are near scenic Trumbull Lake which offers canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Anglers in float tubes do well on Trumbull Lake. Towering mountains rise on either side of the valley. The beautiful Virginia Lakes are within easy walking distance. Gas motored boats are not allowed in any of the lakes in the area. The Virginia Lakes Resort has rowboat rentals, a store, and a cafe serving breakfast and lunch.

The 33 campsites at Trumbull Lake Campground are set in a forest of lodgepole pines which provide plenty of shade. Several sites have partial lake views. One site is designated only for RVs, while the rest can accommodate RVs, trailer, and tents. There are 3 double and one triple campsites. Two-thirds of the sites at Trumbull Lake Campground are available for reservations and the rest are first-come, first-served. (Only reservable campsites are shown on the map below.)

Reservations available Resevations can be made for camping dates from mid-June through early September. During this time some campsites are available first-come, first-served. At other times when the campground is open, all sites are first-come, first-served.

Attractions and Activities

For those camping at Trumbull Lake Campground, the greater Bridgeport area offers a number hiking trails, lakes, and mountains to explore. To the south is Mono Lake with all its wonders.

  • Bridgeport Reservoir is known as an excellent fishing destination.
  • Travertine Hot Springs is a soothing 103 degrees.
  • Bodie State Historic Park is a favorite with history buffs, photographers, and the public in general.
  • To the south are Mono Lake and the scenic June Lake Loop.
  • Twin Lakes are known to produce many of the largest brown trout on record.
  • Hike into the Hoover Wilderness from one of many trailheads within easy distance of Bridgeport.
  • Hike from the Upper Twin Lake to scenic Barney Lake.
