Live Oak Campground is in the Sequoia National Forest off Highway 155 on the northwest shore of Lake Isabella. The campground is close to the town of Wofford Heights and Tillie Creek Campground. North Fork Marina is nearby. Visitors to the campground enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, windsurfing, and waterskiing in Lake Isabella.

Live Oak Campground includes both North and South sections and a group campsite. The North section is used as an overflow site and usually only opens on holiday weekends. The South section has 90 campsites, most of which are first come, first served. Thirty tent-only sites can be reserved.

Live Oak Campground can be very hot in the summer. True to its name, Live Oak Campground is set among groves of oak trees which offer some shade.

Take some time at the Lake Isabella Visitor Center. Drive north to the Trail of 100 Giants, an accessible walk through Long Meadow Grove of Giant Sequoias. Explore the towns of Kernville and Wofford Heights.

Live Oak Group Campsite can accommodate up to 100 (or perhaps 150) people and 25 (or perhaps 30) vehicles. [The reservation website lists both numbers.] The campsite is within the South section of Live Oak Campground.

Attractions and Activities

Lake Isabella draws visitors from up and down the state. Boating, windsurfing, fishing, and camping are among the most popular activities. Visitors to Live Oak Campground find both a north and south section as well as a group campsite.

  • Head out on Lake Isabella for waterskiing and wakeboarding.
  • Rent a boat from one of the lake's two marinas, or launch your own.
  • Fish Lake Isabella for rainbow and brown trout, bass, crappie, kokanee salmon, and catfish.
  • Stop by the Kern Valley Museum.
  • Sign up for white-water rafting with an established rafting company on the Kern River.
  • Play a round of golf at the Kern Valley Golf Course.
  • Explore Silver City Ghost Town.
  • Take a tour of the Kern River Fish Hatchery.

Key Live Oak Campground Regulations

  1. Campfire permits are required for campfires, barbecues, and camp stoves.
  2. ATVs or OHVs are not permitted anywhere around Lake Isabella with the exception of the Motocross track located nearby.
  3. Dogs must be on leash when in the campground and attended at all times.
  4. Glass containers are prohibited around Lake Isabella and along the Kern River.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.
