North Shore Campgrounds at Millerton Lake

North Shore Campgrounds at Millerton Lake provide a variety of scenic place to enjoy the recreation opportunities around the lake. Millerton Lake is 20 miles northeast of Fresno via Highway 41 and Highway 145. The lake and campgrounds are part of the Millerton Lake State Recreation Area.

Millerton's 4,900 surface acres are popular for boating, waterskiing, fishing, and swimming. Summer temperatures can reach 100 degrees but the water is always refreshing. A network of trails around the lake are used by hikers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers.

RV Camping and Tent Camping at North Shore Campgrounds

North Shore Campgrounds at Millerton Lake are across the water from the marina and main boat launch ramps, but there is also a launch ramp within the array of campgrounds. The campgrounds include Rocky Point, Mono, Fort Miller, Dumas Strands, Valley Oak, and Meadows.

Taken together the campgrounds have a total of 133 campsites, all of which are designed for RV camping and tent camping. Most of the campsites have lake views and many are lakefront. Campsites do have little shade, but an awning on your RV or a free-standing shade tent can solve that. A section of campsites in the Meadows area has full RV hook-ups.

North Shore Campground also includes 2 Group Campsites and an Equestrian Camp. Two Boat-in Campgrounds are found along the lake's shore.

Millerton Lake Boat-in Campgrounds

Two boat-in campgrounds are found at Millerton Lake: Temperance Flat and North Finegold. Register for the campsites at the south shore park entrance. Campsites have vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings.

Group Campsites

Millerton Lake offers 2 very attractive group campsites. One campsite can accommodate between 9 and 75 people and 25 vehicles. The other site is for between 9 and 40 people along with 15 vehicles. Facilities include shaded cooking and eating areas.

Fishing and Boating at Millerton Lake

Fishing opportunities at Millerton Lake draw many visitors. Common species at the lake include large-mouth bass, striped bass, spotted bass, blue gills, crappies, carp, and catfish. Anglers report success fishing from boat or shore. The large-mouth bass prefer the shallow water while the spotted bass are often found in deeper areas.

Boating is very popular at Millerton Lake. Boat rentals at the boat ramp include jet skis, aqua cycles, and double kayaks. At the marina choose from a variety of boats, including pontoon boats, jet skis, paddle boards, and the 300 HP wake boat. The long inlets on the lake provide plenty of places to explore. Wide boat ramps make it easy to launch your own boat.

Millerton Lake has been a popular fishing, boating, and camping destination since Friant Dam was built in 1944. For those camped at one of the North Shore Campgrounds, great fishing and boating are nearby.

Key North Shore Campground Regulations

  1. Quiet Hours are from 10 PM to 8 AM. No radios or generators are allowed during quiet hours.
  2. Fires are only allowed in established fire rings.
  3. Dogs must be leashed and attended. Must be confined to vehicle or tent at night from 10 PM to 6 AM.
