Yosemite National Park Campgrounds

Camping in Yosemite National Park is a great way to immerse yourself in the wondrous beauty of this magnificent place. While the valley is the most popular Yosemite camping destination, for those seeking a little more privacy and quiet, there are a number of campgrounds outside the valley. Some of them have all the common amenities while others are more primitive.

Three main campgrounds in Yosemite Valley are among the most popular in the park - Lower Pines Campground, Upper Pines Campground, and North Pines Campground. The trio of campgrounds are located close to one another and right at the heart of Yosemite Valley attractions. Yosemite Falls, Mirror Lake, the Vernal Fall trail, restaurants and shops, the Visitor Center, and other wonderful places to go are easily reached from the campgrounds by walking, cycling, or free shuttle. Yosemite camping is very popular, so make your reservations early.

Three campgrounds are tents-only: Camp 4, Tamarack Flat, and Yosemite Creek. All the rest have spaces for RVs, trailers and tents. Some of them have specialty camps attached to them: Group Camps, Horse Camps, and Backpackers' Camps.

Yosemite makes these suggestions for Yosemite camping reservations: "Another approach is to try to get different campsites each night (rather than one campsite for your entire stay). To do this, change the arrival date to your first desired night, the departure date to the next day, and specify that you're flexible for the next two weeks. With this method, you can search campgrounds in and near Yosemite all at once. Once you've chosen a specific campground, click on the date range availability choice to see if some of your nights are available. If you don't find availability using these methods, it's worth checking back as often as possible: cancellations will appear on the website immediately."
