Southern San Joaquin Valley Campgrounds
Lake camping leads the list of fine camping opportunities in the far southern end of the San Joaquin Valley. Kern County's Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area draws boaters, water skiers, and anglers year-round. Nice campsites make it a great place to bring the whole family. In the foothills east of Visalia are two excellent camping lakes - Lake Kaweah and Lake Success. Campsites have good amenities, including hot showers.
The only group campsites are found at Buena Vista Campground while the only equestrian campsites are located at Horse Creek Campground.
Those heading east from Lake Kaweah will soon be entering Sequoia National Park. East of Lake Success are all the great campgrounds in the Sequoia National Forest, including those in Mountain Home. Camping around Lake Isabella and the Kern River is included in the southern portion of Sequoia National Forest.
