Collins Lake Campground draws campers from around the area who enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and camping. Movies under the stars on the beach and Saturday night live music are part of the attractions at Collins Lake. Families especially enjoy coming back year after year. Jet skis are not permitted. Collins Lake is located between Marysville and Grass Valley, about 1¼ hour's drive from Sacramento.

Collins Lake Campground has a wide variety of campsites available, some without hook-ups, some lakeside, some with water and electric hook-ups, and others with full hook-ups. Rates vary by season and by days of the week, e.g. higher rates on weekends. All campsite reservations have a 2-night minimum stay (3-night on holidays) and some have a 7-night minimum stay.

Reservations at Collins Lake Campground
Reservations Required Collins Lake Campground reservations can be made up to 2 years in advance. Reservations open for the entire following year every January 1. For example, on January 1, 2025, reservations are available for all of 2025 and 2026. There is no first-come, first-served camping available.

Collins Lake has 4 group sites. Rates vary from off season (November through February except for holiday periods) to high season. Higher rates shown below are for Friday and Saturday nights.

  • Lakeview can accommodate up to 60 people and offers 10 RV hook-ups. $500 to $600
  • Water's Edge for small RVs or tents can accommodate 40 people and 15 vehicles. $300 to $400
  • Retreat Group tent-only site can accommodate up to 30 people and 10 vehicles. $300 to $400
  • Upper Meadow for tents and small RVS for up to 30 people and 10 vehicles. $300 to $400

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, firewood from outside the area is not permitted.

Accessible Sites

Designated Accessible sites are usually reserved for people with disabilities who have a vehicle displaying an accessible parking placard or license plate.

Attractions and Activities

Close to Sacramento and Marysville, Collins Lake offers an easy-to-reach camping and recreation destination. The 1,600-acre lake is owned by the Browns Valley Irrigation District. The same family has been operating the concessions there since 1972.

  • RV and tent camping options are available at Collins Lake.
  • Take advantage of their marina with boat rentals and a launch ramp.
  • Have fun on a large sandy beach for swimming. Enjoy the new swimming raft at the beach area.
  • Among the facilities are a picnic area, store, children's playground, beach volleyball, general store, and laundry.
  • Enjoy great fishing for trout, bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish.
  • The 3-mile out and back Hidden Spruce Hiking Trail leads along the high water mark for a beautiful lakeside hike.
  • Check out their movies under the stars on the beach.
  • Take in live music on Saturday nights.
  • Collins Lake has excellent water skiing and wakeboarding (May to mid-October).
  • Cabin rentals are available.

Key Collins Lake Campground Regulations

  1. Fires are only permitted in the provided fire rings.
  2. Beach: No lifeguards on duty at the beach. Dogs and glass are not permitted on the beach.
  3. Dogs must be on leash and always attended. At night they must be in a tent or vehicle.
  4. Quiet Hours are from 10 PM to 8 AM. No generators may be operated during those times.
