Juniper Lake Campground is a wonderful little camping spot tucked away at scenic Juniper Lake in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Campsites are on the southeast shore of the lake. Visitors enjoy hiking, kayaking, fishing, and swimming.
Some of the 18 campsites at Juniper Lake Campground are right along the shore with beautiful views of the lake and Lassen Peak. The tents-only campground is first-come, first served. There is no potable water.
The road to Juniper Lake Campground begins in Chester by Lake Almanor. The first half of the road is paved, while the last 7 miles are well-graded gravel. At times the gravel portion is rather narrow, unsuitable for large vehicles. The final half mile down to the campground is steep and narrow, not recommended for trailers, buses, or RVs. Juniper Lake has 2 lake-side group campsites. The horse camp with corrals and water troughs is up near the main access road, avoiding the steepest and narrowest sections of the tent campground road.
Juniper Lake Group Campground has 2 tent-only sites located at the northwest end of the main campground. Each site can accommodate between 10 and 15 people. These sites must be reserved ahead of time. Each group site has 3 picnic tables, 3 fire grates, and 3 food storage lockers. Six vehicles may be parked at each campsite. Pets are allowed.
Juniper Lake Stock Corral has one site on the east shore of Juniper Lake. The last 6 miles of the road are rough and may be difficult for horse trailers. It is open from late June through mid-September. The site is available for a maximum of 8 animals, 10 people, and 6 wheeled-vehicles.
The camping area has a food locker and vault toilets, but no potable water. The site includes two metal panel corrals. Stock parties must camp at the corral site. Pets are permitted.
