Upper Blue Lake Campground campsites are scattered back in among the trees at the north end of the lake. Campers at Upper Blue Lake enjoy the quiet setting with proximity to several other lakes, all with great fishing. An unimproved boat ramp is nearby.

Blue Lakes are owned by the Pacific Gas & Electric Company, which oversees the campgrounds. Blue Lakes Road leaves Highway 88 in the Hope Valley on the east side of Carson Pass. A 12-mile drive leads to the cluster of lakes which includes Upper and Lower Blue Lakes as well as Twin Lakes, Meadow Lake, and a number of other smaller lakes. Upper Blue Lake Campground is 3 miles beyond popular Lower Blue Lake Campground.

Upper Blue Lake Campground has 27 sites for RVs, trailers, and tents. Reservations can be made online as late as 3 days prior to arrival. A 2-night stay is required for those making reservations. Some sites are kept available for first-come, first-served visitors.

Campground Reservation Information for 2023

PG&E has updated its reservations dates for 2023:
April 10, 8:00 AM - Reservations become available for camping dates one week or longer.
April 17, 8:00 AM - Reservations become available for stays less than one week.

Many PG&E campgrounds (except group campgrounds), including those with reservations available, also have some first-come, first-serve sites.


Key Upper Blue Lake Campground Regulations

  1. Campfires are only allowed in provided fire structures.
  2. No recreational vehicle riding is allowed in the campground.
  3. Quiet Hours run from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. No generators are allowed to be used during those hours.
  4. Dogs must be on leash at all times and always attended.
