Silvertip Group Campground is on the southwest shore of Jackson Meadows Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest, north of Truckee.

Nearby at Woodcamp Recreation Area are a dedicated swim beach and boat launch ramp. The Pacific Crest Trail passes along the east side of the lake. Jackson Meadows Reservoir is a favorite for waterskiing, boating, and fishing.

Silvertip Group Campground has 2 wonderful group sites - Lakeside and Cove. Each can accommodate up to 25 people and 10 vehicles. Both are tent-only sites. Cove Camp appears to have a few more cooking grills than Lakeside. Both sites are right on the lakeshore near the launch ramp.

Attractions and Activities

Jackson Meadows Reservoir north of Truckee is a wonderful destination for groups to camp. Those at Silvertip Group Campground have beautiful lakeside campsites along with a nearby swim beach and boat launch ramp.

  • Make a day trip down to Independence Lake for hiking, bird watching and kayaking or motor boating with rentals from The Nature Conservancy (no outside boats).
  • Discover more about the history of Henness Pass crossed by emigrants during the Gold Rush - Oregon-California Trails Association - Henness Pass.
  • For a nice change of pace, set out Birding in Sierra County. Spot ducks, geese, and teal at Jackson Meadows Reservoir. Bald eagles are appearing more and more frequently. For even more birds, visit Kyburz Marsh.
  • Go on horseback or on foot along the famous Pacific Crest Trail.
