Attractions and Activities

New Hogan Lake has over 4,000 surface acres and a 45 miles of shoreline. Visitors to New Hogan Lake find a variety of attractions and recreation opportunities

  • Water ski, jet ski, sail, cruise, and fish on the 7-mile-long lake.
  • A network of mountain biking trails are spread over the hills east of the campgrounds.
  • Hiking and equestrian trails meander around the lakeshore.
  • Fish for stripers, bass, catfish, and bluegills.
  • Take advantage of the boat-in campground.
  • Play disc golf at the course between Fiddleneck Day-use area and Wrinkle Cove
  • Visit nearby Stillman Magee County Park for rafting and swimming at the Mokelumne River.

Key Campground Regulations

  1. Gate: Gates are open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and until 11 p.m. on weekends. Group campground gate has a combination lock; obtain code from park headquarters.
  2. Generators may only be operated between 10 AM and 8 PM.
  3. Water is in short supply during California's drought.
  4. Dogs must be on leash and always attended. At night they must be in a tent or vehicle. A maximum of 2 pets are allowed.

Coyote Point Campground

Coyote Point Group Campground is located along the shore of New Hogan Lake in the foothills of Calaveras County. The campground is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. Visitors to New Hogan Lake enjoy fishing, boating, waterskiing, mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding. Access to the lake from the group campground may be rocky; tennis shoes are advised.

Coyote Point Group Campground has 1 campsite for groups from 10 to 50 people. The site can accommodate up to 18 vehicles. Plenty of shade is found at the lakefront campground.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on snow conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on the reservation website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Accessible Sites

Designated Accessible sites are usually reserved for people with disabilities who have a vehicle displaying an accessible parking placard or license plate.
