Elam Campground sits along Deer Creek in the Lassen National Forest, 16 miles west of Chester and Lake Almanor. Visitors to the area enjoy relaxing in the pretty setting, hiking local trails and dirt roads, mountain biking, and fishing for rainbow trout. Lassen Volcanic National Park makes an excellent day trip to the north.

Elam Campground has 15 campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents. All of the sites are first-come, first served. Campsites closest to the creek are recommended as the best choices.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Accessible Sites

Designated Accessible sites are usually reserved for people with disabilities who have a vehicle displaying an accessible parking placard or license plate.

Campers at Elam Campground enjoy good fishing locally along Deer Creek and find all kinds of activities at nearby Lake Almanor.

  • Take your boat out onto the water of 28,000-acre Lake Almanor.
  • Enjoy waterskiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, and fishing.
  • Rent a boat at Big Cove Resort, Majors Outpost, or Knotty Pines Resort.
  • Enjoy a picnic and a swim at Marvin Alexander Beach, East Shore or Canyon Dam.
  • Hike on the Lake Almanor Recreation Trail for great views of Lake Almanor.
  • Rent a kayak from Lake Almanor Kayak Rentals.
  • Take a day trip to Butt Reservoir, Mountain Meadows Reservoir or Round Valley Reservoir.

Key Elam Campground Regulations

  1. Dogs must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  2. Fires are only permitted in the provided fire rings. Fires must be totally extinguished before retiring for the night.
  3. Avoid spreading pests by purchasing firewood locally.
  4. Off-road vehicle use is prohibited within the campground.
