Hole-in-the-Wall Campground is located high in the Mojave National Preserve, a 1.6-million-acre park east of Barstow. The park offers spectacular desert beauty with sand dunes, wildflowers, canyons, and mesas. Visitors to the campground enjoy the surrounding sculptured volcanic rock walls, hiking, and wildlife viewing.

Hole-in-the-Wall Campground sits at an elevation of 4,400 feet. The campground features 35 campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents. Two walk-in sites are available. For campfires, bring your own firewood since collecting wood is not permitted. Nearby in a separate camping area for equestrians and for group camping: Black Canyon Equestrian & Group Campground.

Attractions near Hole-in-the-Wall Campground: Stop by the Hole-in-the-Wal Information Center. Visit nearby Mitchell Caverns Natural Preserve in the Providence Mountains State Recreation Area for cave tours and nature trails. Hike the Hole-in-the-Wall Nature Trail. Explore the Rings Loop Trail which includes an ascent from Banshee Canyon with the help of metal ring handholds. Drive north to Cima Road for Joshua trees, Cima Dome, and Teutonia Peak Trailhead.


Black Canyon Equestrian and Group Campground

Only a short distance from Hole-in-the-Wall Campground and across the road from the Information Center is the Black Canyon Equestrian and Group Campground. The group camp can accommodate up to 50 people. Group camp facilities include vault toilets, potable water, fire rings, and picnic shelters with tables.

The equestrian site has similar amenities along with corrals. The site can accommodate up to 30 people.

Campground Regulations

  1. Store all food and garbage in a manner that will prevent access by wildlife.
  2. Fires are only permitted in fire rings. Cutting or collecting any wood, including downed wood, is prohibited.
  3. Quiet Hours run from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. No generator use is permitted during quiet hours.
  4. Dogs must be on leash and attended at all times.
