Hendy Woods State Park Campground

Hendy Woods State Park Campgroud offers a peaceful retreat from urban life. Less that 3 hours north of the Bay Area in Mendocino County, Henry Woods is a wonderful weekend camping spot for those looking for a quiet setting among beautiful redwoods.

Hendy Woods State Park

Hendy Woods State Park is guardian of two groves of towering coast redwoods. Some trees exceed 300 feet tall and more than 1,000 years old. Campers enjoy Hendy Woods' 5 miles of gentle trails that lead through a spacious riverside meadow and among the skyscraping redwoods of the Big Hendy and Little Hendy groves. Most popular is the wheelchair-accessible Discovery trail. Park visitors enjoy summer swimming in the Navarro River when water levels are safe. In late winter and early spring experienced kayakers take to the river.

Park visitors can attend programs at the campfire center and tour the small visitor center. The Hermit Hut Trail leads to a spot where a Russian immigrant once has a small shelter cobbled together with pieces of a fallen redwood. A second hut lies a little farther along the trail. Picnics beside the river are popular. Occasional wildlife can be seen around the park, including gray fox, black-tailed deer, raccoons, skunks, and chipmunks.
