Harvey West Cabin
Harvey West Cabin overlooks the Silver Fork American River, 3 miles south of Highway 50 and Kyburz. The cabin was erected in the early 1930s by the Sacramento Box and Lumber Company and used as an office until purchased by businessman and philanthropist Harvey West in 1936. The cabin was used by his family until the 1970s. Today it is offered as a Forest Service rental cabin.
The rustic Harvey West Cabin sleeps 12 - 20. Within its 2,000 square feet are a great room, kitchen, two downstairs bedrooms, and one and a half bathrooms with flush toilets. A pair of lofts overlook the great room. The cabin has lights, a stove/oven, and refrigerator/freezer, and a single heater - all operate on propane (which is supplied). There is no electricity. A large stone fireplace is in the great room. Hot and cold water run in the kitchen and bathrooms, including a shower. Beds are provided for 12 occupants. Up to 8 more may be added, bringing their own sleeping pads to sleep on floor or back deck.
Visitors to the cabin enjoy hiking, fishing, mountain biking, wading, and swimming (when water levels are safe.) South Lake Tahoe is only 29 miles up Highway 50.
