Lake Tahoe visitors enjoy an almost endless variety of activities and places to explore. Campers at Camp Richardson Campground are close to all the South Lake Tahoe attractions.

  • Head over to the Taylor Creek Visitor Center and the fascinating stream profile chamber.
  • Learn to waterski at High Sierra Waterski School at Homewood or Sunnyside Marina.
  • Rent bicycles, kayaks, and paddleboards at West Shore Sports at Homewood, Sunnyside, or Tahoma.
  • Visit nearby Tallac Historic Site.
  • Visit Emerald Bay and tour the Vikingsholm mansion. Sign up for an Emerald Bay cruise.
  • Set out on the Eagle Falls trail to beautiful mountain lakes.
  • Enjoy the sand on South Lake Tahoe beaches, or head to a casino in nearby Stateline, Nevada.
  • Rent paddleboards and kayaks at Tahoe City Kayak.
  • Rent a boat for a day on the water, or sign up for a lake tours.
  • Rent paddleboards and wend your way along the shoreline.
  • Try fishing from shore or a boat.
  • From Echo Lakes hike (or take their water taxi) across the lakes and into the Desolation Wilderness.
  • Take everyone to Heavenly Valley or Squaw Valley for a scenic gondola ride.

Key Camp Richardson Campground Regulations

  1. No pets are allowed in the campground.
  2. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
  3. Avoid problems with bears by storing all food and scented items in bear-proof lockers provided at tent campsites.
  4. Please do not feed the wildlife.
  5. Campfires are only permitted in provided fire rings. Be sure the fire is completely out before going to bed.

Camp Richardson Campground

Camp Richardson Historic Resort and Marina along the shore of South Lake Tahoe maintains a campground with more than 200 tent sites and a separate campground with more than 100 RV sites. Camp Richardson Campground is close to Jameson Beach and near Pope Beach. The resort has a marina with boat rentals, lodging and dining, a Mountain Sports Center, and other shops. Nearby are popular attractions such as Emerald Bay, Fallen Leaf Lake, and Taylor Creek Visitor Center.

The tent campground at Camp Richardson Campground is arranged into two sections, one on either side of Highway 89. Badger's Den is on the lake side of the highway, while Eagle's Nest is directly across the highway on the inland side. In either campground, try to avoid campsites close to the road. Camp Richardson Campground is within easy walking distance of resort facilities and the lake. Single sites are limited to 2 tents. Willow Loop in Badger's Den has 16 double sites for up to 4 tents. No RVs, trailers, or generators are allowed in the tent camping areas. Check-in is at the RV campground kiosk.

The RV campground at Camp Richardson Campground is directly across Highway 89 from the resort hotel. Included in the RV campground are 8 tent sites. The RV campsites have both water and electric hook-up sites and full hook-up sites. Check-in is at a kiosk at the campground entrance.

No pets are allowed in either the tent or the RV campground. Check-ins are not available after dark.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on snow conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Accessible Sites

Designated Accessible sites are usually reserved for people with disabilities who have a vehicle displaying an accessible parking placard or license plate.
