Close to Sacramento and Marysville, Collins Lake offers an easy-to-reach camping and recreation destination. The 1000-acre lake is owned by the Browns Valley Irrigation District. The same family has been operating the concessions there since 1972.

Key Collins Lake Campground Regulations

  1. Fires are only permitted in the barbecue frills provided.
  2. Beach: No lifeguards on duty at the beach. Dogs and glass are not permitted on the beach.
  3. Dogs must be on leash and always attended. At night they must be in a tent or vehicle.
  4. Quiet Hours are from 10 PM to 8 AM. No generators may be operated during those times.

Collins Lake Campground

Collins Lake is owned and operated by the Browns Valley Irrigation District. The Collins Lake concession offers camping, boating, and other amenities. Collins Lake is located between Marysville and Grass Valley, about 1¼ hour's drive from Sacramento. Fishing, swimming, water skiing and other water activities are popular here. Jet skis are not permitted.

Collins Lake Campground has a wide range of campsites available, some without hook-ups, some lakeside, some with water and electric hook-ups, and others with full hook-ups. First-come, first-served, open camping areas for RVs, trailers, and tents are also available. Rates vary by season and by days of the week, e.g. higher rates on weekends.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on snow conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on the reservation website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, firewood should be obtained from the local area of the campground.

Designated Accessible sites are usually reserved for people with disabilities who have a vehicle displaying an accessible parking placard or license plate.

Collins Lake Group Campsites

Collins Lake has 4 group sites. Rates vary from off season (November through February except for holiday periods) to high season. Rates are paid per person with a minimum charge per night. Children 12 and under are free.

  • Lakeview can accommodate between 20 to 80 people and offers 12 RV hook-ups. $14 to $20 per person, minimum fees $280 to $400
  • Water's Edge for small RVs or tents can accommodate between 20 to 80 people. $10 to $14 per person, minimum fees $200 to $280
  • Retreat Group tent-only site can accommodate between 20 to 60 people. $10 to $14 per person, minimum fees $200 to $280
  • Upper Meadow for tents and small RVS can accommodate between 20 to 60 people. $10 to $14 per person, minimum fees $200 to $280
