Chilkoot Campground is 4½ miles northeast of Bass Lake in the Sierra National Forest. The rustic campground often has campsites when the campgrounds along the shores of Bass Lake are full. Nearby Bass Lake offers great boating, fishing, waterskiing and other outdoor activities. Marinas and resorts at the lake provide an abundance of services.

Chilkoot Campground has 14 campsites. Three campsites are tents-only. The others can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. Eleven of the sites may be reserved under non-specific reservations, which means a specific campsite will be assigned upon arrival. Some sites are on steep slopes and are not suitable for tents. There is no potable water at the campground. A 2-night minimum stay is required on weekends and 3 nights on holiday weekends.

Visit nearby interpretive sites. Spend the day at Lakeside Picnic Area or Wishon Cove. Discover Way-of-the-Mono Interpretive Trail, Angel Falls and Devils Slide Falls Trail. Try not to miss the Bass Lake Fishing Derby in early May.

Bass Lake, south of Yosemite in the Sierra National Forest, has long been a popular recreation area. Visitors who camp at Chilkoot Campground are several miles from the lake but still close enough to enjoy all its attractions.


Key Chilkoot Campground Regulations

  1. No more than 2 pets are permitted per campsite. Dogs must be on leash and attended at all times.
  2. All fires must be in the provided fire ring.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.
