Visitors to the magnificent Shasta-Trinity National Forest have a wide variety of interesting places to visit and scenic vistas to enjoy. Campers at Steel Bridge Campground have convenient access to the Trinity River where shore fishing is particularly good.


Steel Bridge Campground

Steel Bridge Campground is along the Trinity River, 2½ miles off Highway 299 near Douglas City. With its relative seclusion, the campground is often overlooked by passing motorists, but experienced anglers know it offers one of the best base camps in the area for steelhead fishing. Rafting, kayaking, hiking, and swimming are also popular in the area.

Steel Bridge Campground has 12 campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents. There is no potable water available. Supplies are available at the nearby Douglas City Store. All the campsites are first-come, first-served.

Attractions near Steel Bridge Campground: Fishing, kayaking, and rafting are popular in the Trinity River. When water levels are safe, swimming is available. Some like to try their luck gold panning. The nearby Trinity Fly Shop has all your fly fishing needs as well as guide services. Trinity River Outfitters have tackle for all kinds of fishing as well as guide services. Head over to Lewiston Lake for boating and fishing.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on snow conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on the website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Designated Accessible sites are usually reserved for people with disabilities who have a vehicle displaying an accessible parking placard or license plate.
