Lakeshore East Campground

Lakeshore East Campground is in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, on the upper Sacramento Arm of Shasta Lake. Visitors to the campground enjoy fishing, water skiing, wakeboarding, boating, and hiking. Nearby Antlers and Sugarloaf boat ramps provide access to Shasta Lake's expanse of water.

Lakeshore East Campground has 23 campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents spread along the lakeside. Six of the campsites are doubles. Another 3 campsites each include a Yurt. Nineteen of the campsites can be reserved, while the remainder are available first-come, first-served. An oak and pine forest offers partial shade and some privacy between sites. Noise from nearby Interstate 5 and passing trains is a concern. The town of Lakehead is nearby.

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. If using a reservation website, check to be sure your vehicles will fit in the parking space for your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.

Attractions and Activities

Shasta Lake is one of the most popular recreation lakes in the state. Campers at Lakeshore East Campground are close to many of the attractions of the lake.

  • At full capacity Shasta Lake has 30,000 surface acres and 365 miles of shoreline.

  • Shasta Caverns has guided tours of the caves and dinner cruises on Shasta.
  • Summer interpretive programs on weekends at many campgrounds
  • Take a free, 1-hour Shasta Dam Tour. A great choice on a hot day.
  • Stop in at the Shasta Lake Visitor Center along Interstate 5 north of Redding for information about the local area.

Key Lakeshore East Campground Regulations

  1. Bears: Store all food and similar items in bear-proof lockers or canisters.
  2. Dogs must be kept on leash and attended at all times. At night they must be kept in a vehicle or tent.
  3. Fires may only be lit in provided fire rings.
