Visitors Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks have many wonderful places to explore. Campers at Sheep Creek Campground in Cedar Grove are near great hiking trails, crashing waterfalls, and rewarding fishing.

  • Visit nearby Boyden Cavern.
  • Participate in Ranger-led Programs at Grant Grove, Cedar Grove, Wuksachi Lodge, and John Muir Lodge.
  • Cast your fishing into the Kings River in Cedar Grove or hike to Mist Falls.
  • Take advantage of a free shuttle to key sites in Sequoia's Lodgepole and Giant Forest area.
  • In Sequoia, tour Crystal Cave, climb the trail up Moro Rock, stand before the towering Sherman Tree, and visit the Giant Forest Museum.
  • Take a scenic driving tour of some of the spectacular vistas in the parks.
  • Drive up to Hume Lake for fishing and swimming.
  • Children can participate in the Junior Ranger Program.
  • Enjoy the annual Dark Sky Festival, August 21 - 23, 2017. Enjoy telescope viewings, solar observations, activities, and tours.

Key Sheep Creek Campground Regulations

  1. Dogs must always be attended and kept on leash. Except for service dogs, dogs are not permitted on any park trails or on the summer shuttle.
  2. Avoid problems with bears , by following park rules about storing food and scented items in bear-proof lockers, not in vehicles.
  3. Generators may only be operated from 9 AM to 9 PM.

Sheep Creek Campground

Sheep Creek Campground is located at Cedar Grove near Road's End in Kings Canyon National Park. The campsites are along the South Fork of the Kings River in an open conifer forest. Visitors who make the 30-mile drive from Grant Grove down to Cedar Grove are rewarded with a beautiful valley surrounded by towering peaks. Hiking trails lead up the canyon to Mist Falls and points with views of the Sphinx. Sheep Creek, Moraine, and Sentinel campgrounds are side by side and nearly identical.

A bike path connects Sheep Creek Campground with Sentinel Campground and other locations in Cedar Grove. Limited sites will accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet. Extra bear boxes are provided near the campground entrance if the one at your site is not adequate.

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on snow conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on on the website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.
