Humboldt Redwoods State Park is the guardian of thousands of acres of old-growth coastal redwoods. Groups camping ar Williams Grove Group Camp are along the Avenue of the Giants and close to the Eel River.

  • Begin your visit at the park with a tour of the Visitors Center with exhibits, displays, theater, books, and the famous Kellogg Travel Log.
  • Take your pick from over 100 miles of trails for hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders.
  • Drive along the Avenue of the Giants and visit groves of towering redwoods.
  • Boat, fish, and swim in the Eel River.
  • Children like the Junior Rangers program.
  • Plan to attend the daily campfire programs.
  • Keep your eyes open for wildlife such as black-tailed deer, raccoons, chipmunks, and perhaps even a bobcat, coyote, or black bear.
  • Bird watchers may well spot red-tailed hawks, wild turkeys, ospreys, and golden eagles.
  • Fish for steelhead trout in the Eel River.


Key Williams Grove Group Camp Regulations

  1. Wood collecting in the park is not allowed. That includes twigs and leaves.
  2. Generators may only be operated sparingly from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
  3. Avoid problems with bears by storing food and similar items in bear-proof lockers.
  4. Dogs must be on leash and attended at all times. At night they must be confined to a tent or vehicle.

Williams Grove Group Camp

Williams Grove Group Camp is set among old-growth redwoods along the Eel River, ½ mile north of Myer's Flat. The campground is adjacent to the Avenue of the Giants. Campers here enjoy hiking, swimming, and fishing. In the summer, a seasonal bridge provides access to backcountry trails.

Williams Grove Group Camp has 2 group sites, one which can accommodate up to 40 people and the other up to 60 people. The sites can be combined. Although there are no showers at the group sites, campers may use the showers at nearby Hidden Springs Campground.

Changes in California State Parks Reservation System

California State Parks is switching to a new reservation system beginning August 1, 2017. ReserveCalifornia will replace the previous ReserveAmerica. "Beginning on midnight July 26, 2017, the website and telephone reservations for California's state parks will be temporarily offline to prepare for the exciting launch of the new system on August 1. During this time, all existing reservations will be honored. An electronic or hard copy from ReserveAmerica will need to be presented to State Parks staff when checking in for reservation made prior to July 26, 2017."

Attractions near Williams Grove Group Camp: Take advantage of the Williams Grove Day Use Area. Hike along the River Trail which connects Williams Grove to the Garden Club of America Day Use Area and to the Gould River Bar Access (a good swimming spot when water levels are safe).


ReserveCalifornia Reservations Tips

California State Parks' new reservation system - ReserveCalifornia - now allows campers "to make reservations 6 months to the day in advance of their arrival date." For example, on January 1 reservations can be made for stays beginning on July 1. In the past, reservations were released in one-month blocks. Now it is day by day. For months with fewer days than the month 6 months away, reservations for the remaining days will be released in a small cluster on the first of the next month. For example, on March 1 (because February is a short month) you can make reservations for stays beginning August 29-31. Read details at ReserveCalifornia.
