Attractions and Activities

New Hogan Lake has over 4,000 surface acres and 45 miles of shoreline. Campers at the Equestrian Campground have miles of riding trails available to them.

  • Hiking and equestrian trails meander around the lakeshore.
  • Visitors can water ski, jet ski, sail, cruise, and fish on the 7-mile-long lake.
  • Set out and explore a network of mountain biking trails spread over the hills east of the campgrounds.
  • Fish for stripers, bass, catfish, and bluegills.
  • Take advantage of the boat-in campground.
  • Play disc golf at the course between Fiddleneck Day-use area and Wrinkle Cove.
  • Visit nearby Stillman Magee County Park for rafting and swimming at the Mokelumne River.

Key Equestrian Campground Regulations

  1. Generators may only be operated between 10 AM and 8 PM.
  2. Water may still be in short supply after California's drought.
  3. Dogs must be on leash and always attended. At night they must be in a tent or vehicle. A maximum of 2 pets is allowed.

Equestrian Campground

The Equestrian Campground at New Hogan Lake is in the Monte Vista Recreation Area on the southwest side of the lake. The Equestrian Campground was developed and installed in 1996 by Lodi Boy Scout Justin Joyner as his Eagle Scout project. Visitors to the campground enjoy miles of equestrian trails along the shore of the lake leading into the Slate Creek and Whiskey Creek areas.

The Equestrian Campground has 4 campsites, all partially shaded by oaks. There is no drinking water available at the campground. When the lake is full, the campsites are only about 100 yards from the water's edge.

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on snow conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on the reservation website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, obtain firewood locally.
