Forest Service Notice: "Grouse Valley Cabin Complex is currently closed for maintenance and repairs. There is currently no opening date and will likely be closed until at least the Summer of 2027."

The 3 Grouse Valley Cabins (listed as the Grouse Valley Cabin Complex) are located in the Giant Sequoia National Monument within Sequoia National Forest, 44 miles east of Visalia. The three rental cabins are known as the Caretaker's Cabin, Hillside Cabin, and Lakeside Cabin. Lakeside, the largest of the 3, can accommodate up to 12 people while the other two each sleep 10. The cabins are in a scenic valley with 2 lakes, pine and oak trees, and a small orchard.

Cabin Features

Visitors at the 1,032-square-foot Caretaker's Cabin, located next to the garage, can bring horses and make use of the adjacent barn, hay shed, corrals, and pasture. The 1,550-square foot Lakeside Cabin is beside a small man-made lake. This two-story log cabin features an 8-foot covered deck on three sides. The two bedrooms have a queen, king, double and twin. Lakeside has a woodstove/fireplace, a microwave, and clothes washer and dryer.

The 1,400-square foot Hillside Cabin also has a deck on 3 sides. The 2-story cabin has one bedroom. Sleeping arrangements are a king in the ground floor bedroom, a queen and 2 twin beds in the loft. The living room has a queen futon. Horses are permitted. The cabin includes a washer and dryer, fireplace, and microwave. All three cabins include a full kitchen, living and dining areas, full baths (the large house has two full baths) and large areas for bunks/beds. All have electricity, laundry, water wells, and grills.

Nearby Activities

Visitors to The Grouse Valley Cabin Complex enjoy its serenity and open space in a remote mountain valley. Visitors can fish, canoe and hike around the lakes. Since it is public land, other visitors are welcome to be there, walking in to the property. To the south is a natural preserve and the town on Springfield. Head north to Lake Kaweah and the Three Rivers entrance to Sequoia National Park.

Attractions and Activities

The Sequoia National Forest ranges from low foothills on the west to high Sierra peaks toward the east. River, streams, trails, and remote roads offer many recreation opportunities. Vistors to Grouse Valley Cabins can fish in nearby streams and hike along a variety of forest trails.

  • Fish in Grouse Creek and the property lakes.
  • Strike out on mountain biking trails around Deer Creek, Fish Creek, Jordan Lookout, Lion Ridge, and many more.
  • Rock climbers challenge their skills on the granite faces off Needles Lookout Trail.
  • Drive less than an hour to Lake Kaweah for fishing, boating, and picnicking.
  • Saddle up and set out on horseback along popular trails such as Mule Peak Lookout, Lewis Camp, or Doe Meadow.
  • Take a day and head north to Sequoia National Park.
  • A scenic 2-hour drive from the cabins is the Trail of 100 Giants with an impressive array of Giant Sequoias.
  • Explore Silver City Ghost Town.

Key Grouse Valley Cabins Regulations

  1. To avoid problems with bears, do not leave food outside unattended.
  2. No pets or smoking are permitted inside the cabin.
  3. Fires are only permitted in provided fire rings. Inside there can be no open flames such as candles, backpacking or Coleman stoves, etc.
  4. Remove all food (even unopened cans) and garbage when you leave.
  5. Renters are expected to clean up after themselves and prepare the hut for the next group. Cleaning supplies are in the mudroom. Take trash with you.
  6. No camping equipment is permitted at the cabins, e.g. no tents RVs, pop-ups, trailers, etc.
